President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic on Friday sent a congratulatory message to Croatia's citizens on the occasion of Independence Day, observed on 8 October, underscoring that the Croatians have achieved a lot in the 25 years of independence and should be proud of their country.
"We can and must be proud of our young state that has emerged from a centuries-long struggle for freedom. We have achieved a lot in the 25 years of our independence. After the difficult experience of totalitarian regimes and dictatorships, we have successfully developed a culture of democracy, built institutions and become a respectable member of international organisations and institutions ," the president wrote in her message.
She said that this was also an occasion to remember the first Croatian president Franjo Tudjman and people who had defended the country during the 1991-1995 war.
