Fewer unemployed on the month and on the year

At the end of February there were 289,429 registered unemployed persons, which was 3,807 or 1.3% fewer unemployed than in January, the Croatian Employment Service (HZZ) reported on Thursday, noting that this was the first time the number of job-seekers had decreased after five consecutive months of growing unemployment.

Compared with February 2014, there were 40,322 or 12.2% fewer unemployed at the end of February this year.

The decrease in the number of the unemployed can be attributed to the start of seasonal employment primarily in tourism considering that the Easter break this year is relatively early.

Unemployment is continuing to decrease in March and HZZ data indicates that currently there are 285,416 unemployed persons, which is 4,013 fewer jobless than at the end of February.

Currently there are 15,969 vacancies registered with the HZZ.
