Female Afghan refugee dies in Opatovac

A 63-year-old Afghan woman died in Opatovac, east Croatia, on Saturday morning immediately after she got off the bus that had transported refugees from Serbia into the local reception centre for migrants and refugees passing through Croatia.

"As soon as the lady collapsed, doctors tried to reanimate her but in vain. The family of the deceased person expressed a wish that she be buried in the nearest Muslim cemetery. We, in cooperation with the UNHCR and local authorities, will make sure that this will be done" the spokesman for the Vukovar-Srijem police district, Domagoj Dzigumovic said.

As many as 290,500 refugees and migrants fleeing war and poverty in the Middle East, Asia and Africa, have passed though Croatia since mid-September, when the migrant crisis spilled over to Croatia, as a result of Hungary's decision to seal its border with Serbia.
