Exec says implementation of Krk LNG terminal definitely certain

Mladen Antunovic, the director of the LNG Croatia company responsible for the development of the LNG terminal project on the Island of Krk, has said that the project is "at a high level of maturity" and its implementation is definitely certain.

This time Croatia will make it to the benefit of all stakeholders on the gas market, Antunovic said at the start of a three-day conference of gas experts in the coastal resort of Opatija on Wednesday.

The event brought together over 500 experts from a score of countries. 

"The construction of the LNG terminal at (Omisalj) is a Croatian and European strategic project and it is added to the list (made by the European Commission) of projects of common interest," Antunovic recalled, adding that the EC has earmarked 5 million euros as non-repayable funds for the preparation of the Krk LNG terminal project.

He said that LNG Croatia concluded a public call for investment in this project.

Industrial investors were to submit their offers by 30th November 2015, and financial investors by 31st December 2015. After the deadline for submission of the bids, the evaluation process by legal and financial advisers and technical experts begins. The entire procedure is carried out in accordance with the project time plan agreed with the European Commission and in line with EU Directives and legislations of Republic of Croatia, according to information provided on the the LNG Croatia company's website.

"The proposed project will include the building and operating of the infrastructure necessary for receiving, storing, reloading and regasification of liquefied natural gas. The Project has the purpose to secure energy needs and increase security of gas supply through the provision of new gas supply route for the Central and Southeastern European countries," according to the company's website.
