European Liberals support Croatia's HNS and People's Coalition

The leader of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe group in the European Parliament, Guy Verhofstadt, on Friday called on voters in Croatia to vote for the People's Coalition at the September 11 election, the Croatian People's Party (HNS) said.

In a few days' time you will have to choose. Your choice will determine what sort of country Croatia will be. That will be a choice between stability and progress on the one hand and paralysis and economic decline on the other. We, ALDE, stand at the progressive centre in European politics and the same goes for Croatian liberals who are the most progressive reformist force in Croatian politics, Verhofstadt said in a video message.

He added that the European Liberals are fighting for reforming the European Union and for a Europe that is capable of facing globalisation and to preserve security and prosperity.

We have transformed our societies by ensuring equal rights for all, including the LGBT community. We are the strongest enemies of nationalism and xenophobia and ardent advocates of transparency in politics and the right of citizens to privacy, he said.

He stressed that the Liberals support small and medium-sized entrepreneurs as the backbone of the European economy, that they have introduced tax reliefs and better regulations.

Let's not fool ourselves though. Our greatest battle is against forces of populism, nationalism and xenophobia. There is no compromise there. That is why the People's Coalition and Croatian liberals are the key to a better future and Croatia's progress, Verhofstadt concluded.
