Energy renovation projects announced for apartment buildings, schools

Outgoing Construction and Physical Planning Minister Lovro Kuscevic said on Wednesday that the implementation of a programme for the energy renovation of apartment buildings and schools would begin next week.

The programme supports the energy renovation and use of renewables in the public infrastructure, including public and housing buildings, and EUR 311 million from the European Regional Development Fund is available for it, of which EUR 211 million is envisaged for the energy renovation of public buildings and the rest for apartment buildings.

On Monday, the ministry will invite draft projects for apartment buildings and the submission deadline will be 90 days, whereby Croatia is beginning to spend European Regional Development Fund money, so the Croatian Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund will no longer allocate funds for that, Kuscevic said.

The ministry will initially allocate HRK 152 million, which will facilitate investments exceeding HRK 250 million, he said.

The requirement for applying is saving 50% of energy annually for heating and cooling. The lowest amount applicants can ask for is HRK 150,000 and the highest HRK 16.5 million per building. It is estimated that Croatia has over half a million apartments.
