Dubrovnik's Midsummer Scene Festival to tour globe

Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream has been included as the main feature of Dubrovnik's Midsummer Scene to be presented in the Viennese English Theatre during Advent and will be performed every night from 7 November to 22 December.

This will be the first of a series of guest appearances by the festival aimed at raising international recognition.

As stressed in a press release, this is a huge international recognition for the festival which was held in Dubrovnik from 21 June to 7 July with a performance of Hamlet starring British actress Helen Millar and directed by Helen Tennison on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death.

A Midsummer Night's Dream which was also directed by Tennison was a huge hit last year at the Midsummer Scene and organisers hope to expand Dubrovnik's cultural potential to foreigners visiting Dubrovnik during the summer.

After performing in Vienna the production will travel to the Bermuda Festival from 23 to 26 January 2017 and will be performed in the Earl Cameron in Bermuda's capital - Hamilton.

"These guest performances are a step out for Croatia's theatre festival and is the only festival in English in this part of Europe. This is confirmation of the quality and marks the start of greater networking the Midsummer Scene festival which from its very beginnings has featured an international nature," the press release says.
