Croatia's industrial producer prices down for 36 straight months

Croatia's industrial producer prices fell by 6.2% in April 2016 compared with April 2015, the 36th month in a row that they had recorded a year-on-year decline, figures from the National Bureau of Statistics show.

Broken down by activity, producer prices in the manufacturing industry dropped by 6.5%, in mining and quarrying by 5.6%, in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply by 5.3%, and in water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities by 1%.

Compared with March 2016, producer prices in April 2016 were down by 1.3%. They fell by 1.4% in manufacturing and by 2.4% in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply, increased by 0.2% in mining and quarrying, and remained unchanged in water supply.

Excluding energy, industrial producer prices in April 2016 were 0.6% lower than in March 2016 and contracted by 1.7% compared with April 2015.

Low energy prices on foreign markets will continue to exert deflationary pressures on prices on the domestic market. However, deflationary pressures might ease towards the end of the year with an expected mild recovery of crude oil prices, analysts at Raiffeisenbank Austria (RBA) said in their comment on the DZS report.
