Croatians to travel to Switzerland with ID cards as of March 11

As of next Friday, Croatian nationals will be able to travel to Switzerland for tourist purposes with valid ID cards, the Croatian Foreign and European Affairs Ministry said on Friday.

"As part of a process to regulate the status of Croatian nationals in Switzerland, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has reached agreement on the termination of passport requirements for tourist travel of Croatian nationals, to take effect on March 11, 2016. This will enable Croatian nationals travelling to Switzerland for tourist purposes to enter the territory of the Swiss Confederation by presenting valid ID cards," the ministry said in a statement, noting that the said rule applied to entries of duration of up to 90 days in any 180-day period annually.

The EU and Switzerland on Friday signed a protocol expanding their agreement on the free movement of persons to include Croatia, which is the first formal step in a process to definitely regulate the status of Croatian nationals in Switzerland, arising from the country's full membership in the EU.
