Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic concluded her two-day official visit to Slovakia on Thursday by delivering a lecture at the Faculty of Political Science and International Relations of Matej Bel University in Banska Bystrica, on which occasion she was awarded a honorary doctorate for her professional achievements and personal endeavours.
"I didn't expect such a recognition, but I will continue my education because I firmly believe in life-long learning and that all people should continue working on self-improvement," Grabar-Kitarovic briefly told the press after the lecture.
University Rector Vladimir Hiadlovsky said that this title is conferred on prominent people for cooperation with their university. "The Croatian president has made a considerable contribution to the programmes and disciplines that are taught at our faculty, not just since she became president but also while performing other duties before that," he said.
The University in Banska Bystrica was established in 1992 and has awarded about 15 honorary doctorates to date.
