Croatian president to attend World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul

Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic will attend the World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul on Monday and Tuesday at the invitation of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, her office announced in a press release on Friday.

The Croatian president is due to address the summit and attend a closed meeting of heads of state or government who will discuss the challenges and possibilities of extending humanitarian aid.

Grabar-Kitarovic will also address a round table on "Political Leadership to Prevent and End Conflict" and will co-chair a round table entitled "Women and Girls – Catalysing Action to Achieve Gender Equality."

The World Humanitarian Summit is an opportunity for world leaders to exchange views on new initiatives and proposals for the improvement of international humanitarian action and define the principles for more efficient cooperation with the common goal of saving lives and alleviating suffering, the press release said.
