Croatian, Hungarian presidents meet on fringes of UN General Assembly debate

Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic and Hungarian President Janos Ader held talks in New York on Thursday about the Budapest-Rijeka railway, gas transportation infrastructure and the situation in relations between Croatia's oil and gas company INA and Hungary's oil and gas group MOL, confirming the importance of strengthening the two countries' partnership, Grabar-Kitarovic's office said.

Grabar-Kitarovic and Ader met on the fringes of a thematic debate of the UN General Assembly to discuss the importance of road and railway corridors, including the Budapest-Rijeka railway, the construction of a liquefied natural gas terminal on the island of Krk, and the INA-MOL situation, the office said in a statement.

The two presidents underlined the importance of investing additional effort in strengthening the strategic Croatian-Hungarian partnership, the statement said.

The two presidents also discussed the Adriatic-Baltic-Black Sea initiative in the context of transport and energy infrastructure and development of digital networks.

They confirmed that they would meet in September, on the occasion of the 450th anniversary of the Battle of Szigeth.
