Croatian FM: If Germany closes borders, Croatia will too

As long as Germany keeps its borders open to all migrants it is possible to let people through to reach their final destination, but once Germany closes its border, everything else is closing too, including the Croatian border, Croatian Foreign and European Affairs Minister Vesna Pusic said on Monday, adding that she had requested in writing closer cooperation from her Greek counterpart.

"The moment Germany closes the border, everything else is closing as well, including Croatia's border. Should Germany close the border there will be a butterfly effect, namely Austria and Slovenia will close their borders too. In that case, Croatia will close the border," Pusic told Nova TV.

She explained that the policy of transit countries was to have a small number of migrants stay in the country while most of them are passing through, adding that if the said scenario takes place migrants would find themselves stuck in Croatia which could provide for up to 5,000 people.

"We could not provide for more than than," Pusic said.

Pusic said that at this moment the control of Croatia's border is full and that migrants were entering the country though the Bapska border crossing and waiting for buses on the other sided of the border.

She claims Croatia would let all those people pass through, adding that "this would truly have to be a joint effort by Austria, Slovenia, Germany, Croatia, Serbia, Macedonia, Greece and definitely Turkey."

Pusic said that Hungary would help a lot if it re-opened its borders and alloed people to pass through.

She confirmed she sent a letter earlier on Monday to her Greek counterpart asking for more detailed talks and cooperation.
