Croatian fighter jets intercept Israeli aircraft following bomb scare

Two Croatian Air Force jets intercepted an Israeli plane in the Croatian airspace on Tuesday after being alerted of a potential bomb threat aboard the plane.

The plane, a Boeing 747 en route from the United States to Israel, was escorted by two Croatian MiG-21 fighter jets during its flight through the Croatian airspace between 0907 and 0920 hours on the orders of NATO's Combined Air Operations Centre in Torrejon, Spain.

The interception was carried out in accordance with NATO rules and procedures foreseen for such cases, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement.

After the plane touched down at Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport, a security check revealed that the threat was a false alarm.
