Croatian and Polish parliament officials talk economic cooperation

Croatian Parliament Speaker Zeljko Reiner has said on the margins of a forum of Croatian and Polish regions, which took place in Dubrovnik on Thursday, that there is great potential to increase Croatia's exports into Poland.

During the forum, Reiner met with Polish Senate President Stanislaw Karczewski for talks on bilateral economic cooperation, with emphasis on infrastructural investments and reinforcing the cooperation between SMEs in the two countries.

"We have considered possibilities for enhancing cooperation in large-scale infrastructure projects of great interest not only to Croatia but also to central and northern Europe. One of good examples is a (future) LNG terminal on the island of Krk which should be connected by a gas pipeline to the LNG terminal in Poland, thus paving the way for an alternative energy route of key importance for central and western Europe," Reiner said.

Also road and rail infrastructure and transport were on the agenda of the Reiner-Karczewski talks.

The Croatian official recalls that in terms of population, Poland is ten times bigger than Croatia, and we certainly have possibilities for a significant increase of exports of goods in Poland and this forum is one of forms at which direct contacts between Croatian and Polish entrepreneurs may result in a series of agreements and contracts on cooperation," Reiner said.

The chairman of the upper house of the Polish parliament said that the relations between Croatia and his country were increasingly good.

Karczewski also commented on a rise   of Polish tourists going on holiday in Croatia. In terms of tourists, the Polish are the sixths largest group in Croatia and we will soon move upward this tanking, he added.
