Croatian and German navy commanders meet to discuss cooperation

The Croatian Navy commander, Commodore Predrag Stipanovic, and his German counterpart, Vice Admiral Andreas Krause, met in the southern coastal city of Split on Wednesday to discuss ways of advancing cooperation between the two navies.

"We will be primarily working on personal training, and more personnel from the two navies will probably be involved in this in the foreseeable future," Stipanovic told the press.

Stipanovic recalled that previous contacts between the two navies mostly related to training in anti-mine warfare. "I hope that today's meeting and presentation of the Croatian Navy will help improve these capabilities," he added.

Krause, who is on an official visit to the Croatian Navy from April 26 to 28, said that he had come at the invitation of Commodore Stipanovic extended a year and a half ago. He said he could not come earlier due to a pressing work schedule.

"I have acquainted myself with the capabilities of the Croatian Navy and we have discussed future cooperation," he said.

Today the German Navy commander is also scheduled to meet with the mayor of Split, Ivo Baldasar, and the deputy head of Split-Dalmatia County, Ante Sosic.
