Consumption in August up 5.1% year on year

Consumption in Croatia grew in August by 5.1% from the same month of 2015, which is the highest increase in the last nine years and higher than expected.

The national statistical office on Tuesday released its preliminary estimate which shows that according to working-day adjusted data, retail turnover increased by 2.6% on the year in nominal terms and by 5.1% in real terms.

This is the biggest jump in consumption since September 2007, when it grew 6.7%.

Four macroeconomists polled by Hina had expected consumption to rise in August by an average 4.3%. Their estimates ranged from 3.8% to 4.6%.
