Committee unanimously supports Medved for veterans minister

The parliamentary War Veterans Committee on Thursday unanimously gave a vote of confidence in Tomo Medved, the candidate for war veterans minister.

Medved still has to be approved by parliament but there will be no discussion on him, only a vote, so it is possible that MPs will approve him as early as tomorrow.

I expect parliament to give me such support, Medved told reporters. He said his tasks would be to draw up a new law on veterans' entitlements, including those of the Bosnian Croat Defence Council, veterans centres and more dialogue.

Medved said he had examined the 2016 draft budget and that the War Veterans Ministry could function with the funds envisaged. No additional funds but a different organisation is necessary for more order (in the department), he added.

Presenting Medved to the War Veterans Committee, Prime Minister Tihomir Oreskovic voiced confidence that he was the right man for the job and that he was honoured to have Medved in his team.

"He was a participant in the Homeland War, has received numerous decorations, is the president of the Tigers war veterans associations. He has identified the problems of our veterans and I'm sure that he's the right person for the minister of war veterans," Oreskovic said.
