Bridge MP disappointed with failed attempt of new parliament

Ivan Lovrinovic, a deputy of independent slates proposed by the Bridge party on Thursday was visible disappointed by the fact that the eighth parliament's first attempt to hold the inaugural session failed.

We expected that the parliament's speaker would have been elected by consensus, which we need in this situation. However, you can see that those two parties (the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ)) cannot agree on this important matter," Lovrinovic told reporters while leaving the parliament hall, after the 151 newly-elected deputies failed to elect the Sabor Speaker which marks the inauguration of a new parliament.

Lovrinovic claimed that it was clear that it was not Bridge that was obstructing the government's formation and the election of the chairman of the eighth legislature.

Fifty-five deputies from the SDP-led coalition proposed that Bridge deputy Robert Podolnjak be elected the new parliament speaker, however, the HDZ was against it and Podolnjak himself was against his election unless he enjoyed the support of the HDZ.
