Members of the Bridge party and its supporters on Sunday welcomed with applause and euphoric shouts the results of exit polls showing that the party is set to win 11 seats in the parliament after it came third in Croatia's snap election.
"This confirms that Bridge has a stable electorate and potential for further growth," said Vlaho Orepic, who headed the party's slate in Constituency No. 1.
Orepic said that he was satisfied with the results of exit polls. "We have been part of the executive authorities and that is a fight you cannot walk out of unaffected."
Orepic would not comment on a possible post-election cooperation with the HDZ party, saying he hoped that Andrej Plenkovic's coming to the helm of the HDZ meant that the party had started to democratise.
"A new leader does not mean the entire party has changed," said Orepic.
The State Electoral Commission (DIP) on Monday released complete results of Sunday's early parliamentary election, confirming the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) as the relative election winner.
