Bridge and HDZ reps trade accusations over lack of reform

Public Administration Minister Dubravka Alibegovic of the Bridge party on Thursday accused the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) of having halted the reform in the public administration, while Ivana Maletic of the HDZ countered that this reform failed due to the inability of the relevant ministry led by the Bridge party to draw up an acceptable action plan.

"The HDZ has no political will to conduct a reform of public administration. I have witnessed to that," Jurlina Alibegovic said at a round table discussion on how to overhaul judiciary and public administration, organised in Zagreb by the Croatian Employers' Association (HUP) and the Hanza Media publishing house.

Jurlina Alibegovic, the minister in the outgoing government, insists that the reform is a must so as to provide citizens with high-quality public services.

HDZ official Maletic, who participated in the round table, responded that the reform had failed due to the inability of the ministry led by the Bridge representative to draw up a proper action plan.

Maletic, a member of the European Parliament, claims that the action plan prepared by the Bridge party and sent by the ministry to Brussels was described by the European Commission as lacking.

Maletic noted that in the meantime the ministry failed to make improvements, and added that every reform must be well-designed.
