Anti-corruption office says Petrov wasn't under surveillance

The anti-corruption agency USKOK said on Wednesday that Bridge party leader Bozo Petrov had not been under any kind of surveillance measures.

"During an investigation, data has been gathered from relevant state bodies, including the Operational and Technical Centre for Telecommunication Surveillance. Based on those results, it has been established that no surveillance measures were taken against Bozo Petrov, nor were his calls examined," USKOK said on its website on Wednesday.

Spokesman for the Bridge party Nikola Grmoja was questioned in USKOK headquarters last week after he made public claims that PNUSKOK police anti-corruption investigators had Petrov under surveillance during the entire post-election negotiations process in an off-the-books operation.

After his interview with USKOK, Grmoja said he suspected that that outgoing Interior Minister Ranko Ostojic had abused his office. "I didn't say that was certain nor that I have evidence of that. I want that apparatus to be in the service of national security and the fight against corruption and crime, not to be used for political showdowns," Grmoja said at the time.

Ostojic refuted Grmoja's claims in the strongest terms and called on Petrov to face him publicly and discuss the allegations.

The Parliamentary Home Affairs and National Security Committee has been notified of the alleged surveillance of Petrov.
