75th anniversary of uprising in LIka marked in Srb under police protection

A ceremony was held in Srb on Wednesday to mark 75 years since the people of the Lika region rose against fascism on July 27 July, 1941.

The event was attended by former President of Croatia and honorary president of the Federation of Anti-Fascist Fighters, Stjepan Mesic. As Mesic addressed those gathered, a group of about 15 women carrying Croatian flags sang patriotic songs to disrupt Mesic's speech. The women however, dispersed peacefully after the speech.

The Autochthonous Croatian Party of Rights announced a protest rally today in a fenced-off area at the foot of the monument commemorating Uprising Day. The protest was held under the watchful eyes of the police.

Demonstrators have staged rallies in Srb on Uprising Day for several years now to protest against crimes committed by Serb extremists against Croat civilians in Brotnja and surrounding villages in August 1941.

Srb is located about 200 kilometres south of Zagreb, on the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
