74th anniversary of WWII Partisan operation commemorated at Petrova Gora

The Alliance of Anti-fascist Fighters and Anti-fascists of Croatia and of the municipalities of Vojnic, Krnjak, Gvozd and Topusko and the Serb National Council (SNV) on Saturday commemorated on Petrova Gora, a mount in Karlovac County, the 74th anniversary of a World War II operation by Partisan fighters, a breakthrough at Biljeg that helped save 10,000 Serbs and 730 Partisans from the Nazi-styled Ustasha authorities.

Addressing the event, SNV president and MP Milorad Pupovac expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that that none of the top state officials attended today's event at Petrova Gora, just as they did not attend the celebration of Victory Over Fascism Day and Europe Day on May 9.

Petrova Gora, spreading over a 44-square-kilometre area, surrounded by roads from all sides, close to strong enemy forces, remained a physical and moral stronghold during the entire National Liberation Struggle not only of the people of Kordun, but also of the Partisan forces in the areas of Pokuplje, Zumberak, Cazinska Krajina and entire Croatia.
