307,000 migrants pass through Croatia since mid-Sept

A total of 307,000 refugees and migrants from Middle East countries have passed through Croatia since the migrant crisis spilled over to Croatia from neighbouring countries on September 16, and on Sunday alone, 8,400 arrived, Vukovar County Police Department spokesman Domagoj Dzigumovic said.

More than 3,400 migrants entered Croatia at Bapska, eastern Croatia, from midnight on Sunday to 9am on Monday.

Dzigumovic said that the agreement and protocol on the transfer and reception of migrants signed by Croatia and Serbia would fully come into force on Wednesday, when the first direct train with migrants and refugees should set out from Sid, a town in Serbia close to the border with Croatia, towards a winter reception centre in Slavonski Brod, Croatia.

Dzigumovic said this meant that on Monday and Tuesday refugees would continue to be received via Bapska and accommodated at the reception centre at Opatovac, from where they were being sent to Slovenia by bus or train.

Some 30 buses with refugees left Opatovac this morning for Slovenia and the influx of refugees and migrants is expected to continue to be great.

Minister of the Interior Ranko Ostojic said on Sunday that everything was ready for the reception of the first refugees at the winter transit centre in Slavonski Brod. The centre can accommodate 5,000 people.
