2nd phase of demining of farmland starts in Sisak

The Sisak County authorities and the Croatian Mine Action Centre on Monday signed a HRK 57 million contract for the removal of mines from 6.8 square kilometres of arable land.

Farmland in Petrinja, Sunja and Jasenovac will be cleared of mines, left over from the Homeland Defence War, according to Sisak Prefect Ivo Zanic.

The contract relates to the second phase of demining which will cost 209 million kuna in total, and the first phase resulted in mine clearance of 13 square kilometres of farmland in Sisak County.

So far, 25 square kilometres of arable land throughout Croatia have been cleared of landmines, which cost 182 million kuna.
