0.9 pct fewer employed in Croatia at end of December

The total number of employed persons in Croatia in December last year fell month on month for the fifth consecutive month, by 0.9%, the State Bureau of Statistics (DZS) reported on Friday.

DZS temporary data indicates that at the end of December last year there was a total of 1,307,030 people with jobs which, when compared to November, was 12,280 or 0.9% less.

December saw a continuation in the monthly trend of the total number of persons employed which began in August last year. The greatest reduction in the number of persons employed in that period was 1.3% which was recorded in October last year. In September, a fall of 1.1% was recorded.

Records kept by the Croatian Employment Service (HZZ) show that at the end of December last year, there were 285,468 people registered as unemployed. That was 0.3% or 811 more people unemployed in comparison with November. The unemployment rate increased from 17.7% recorded in November to 17.9% and the end of December.
