German carmaker Volkswagen is recalling almost 600,000 cars in the United States, with the action mainly affecting Audi models, a spokesman for the subsidiary told dpa on Sunday.
The cars have a number of different faults affecting coolant pumps, airbags and seat-belt tensioners in a variety of VW's premium models, the Audi spokesman said.
Recalls are set to begin next month. The spokesman did not give further details on the initiative.
The car owners will be able to take their vehicles to garages for repair for free. "That is always the case," the spokesman added.
