Croatian and Hungarian chambers ink agreement

The Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK) and the Hungarian Chamber of Agriculture have signed a cooperation agreement which is expected to intensify the economic cooperation between the two countries, the HGK said on Thursday.

The agreement will also contribute to intensifying trade, giving Croatian and Hungarian companies easier access to cheaper and better raw materials, the usage of processing and storage facilities, and easier exports on the two markets, HGK president Luka Burilovic said.

The Visegrad Group area (the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia) is very important to Croatia as an economic destination with a big potential in the future, he added. He recalled that a Croatian business delegation visited Slovakia last year and announced an upcoming visit to Poland and attendance at economy fairs in Hungary and the Czech Republic later this year.

Ljerka Puljic of the HGK said Croatia's Agrokor concern had an excellent cooperation with Hungary's agricultural sector. "Croatia and Hungary are compatible countries and share interests for which we could fight together in Brussels. We expect continuous cooperation, which the economy welcomes."

Croatian Consul General in Pecs Vesna Haluga said the agreement offered a new prospect of economic cooperation, while Hungarian Chamber of Agriculture president Balazs Gyorffy said he expected Croatia's new government with optimism as well as better and more dynamic cooperation.

According to HGK figures for the first half of 2015, Croatia imported US$ 133.86 million worth of agricultural and food products from Hungary, while exporting $45.8 million.
