Montenegrin parliament speaker replaced, new gov't ministers appointed

Deputies in the Montenegrin parliament on Thursday replaced Speaker Ranko Krivokapic and appointed four new government ministers and a deputy prime minister from opposition ranks.

The proposal to relieve Krivokapic of his duties had been submitted by 36 deputies of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), the Croatian Civic Initiative (HGI), the Bosniak Party (BS), the Liberal Party (LP) and the Albanian Forca party.

At an extraordinary parliamentary session on January 27, at which the government was given a vote of confidence, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) voted against the Milo Djukanovic government, thus leaving the ruling coalition.

Current Deputy Parliament Speaker Milutin Simovic of Djukanovic's DPS party will be serving as Parliament Speaker until elections to be held by the end of the year.

Parliamentary deputies also adopted changes to "the government of election confidence", proposed by PM Djukanovic in line with an agreement with some opposition parties on the creation of conditions for free and fair elections.

The Opposition nominated a deputy prime minister and four ministers, most of whom are not members of any party, and the parliament confirmed them on Thursday.
