Croatian defence minister visits Adem Jashari Memorial Centre in Kosovo

Croatia's Defence Minister Josip Buljevic and Presidential Adviser Ante Deur visited the Adem Jashari Memorial Centre in Prekaz on Tuesday at the end of their two-day visit to Kosovo, the Defence Ministry said in a press release.

Adem Jashari was one of the founders of the Kosovo Liberation Army. He was killed in a Serbian police operation during the war in Kosovo in the late 1990s.

The Croatian officials met with members of his family.

"The lasting connection between Croatia and Kosovo is seen in the fact that both countries made great sacrifices and witnessed great suffering for their freedom and independence. That's why they both appreciate their freedom and are ready to assume their part of responsibility in establishing lasting peace and stability and in the Euro-Atlantic future of Southeast Europe," Buljevic said.

The Adem Jashari Memorial Centre commemorates people killed in a Serbian police attack on Prekaz in March 1998. Jashari and over 50 members of his family were killed in the attack.

On the first day of their visit on Monday, Buljevic and Deur met with senior Kosovo officials.
