Covic says EU General Affairs Council to accept Bosnia's application on Tuesday

The Croat member of Bosnia and Herzegovina's Presidency, Dragan Covic, said on Saturday that the European Union General Affairs Council would accept Bosnia's membership status application on Tuesday.

"Today it's quite certain that on the 20th of this month we will have a positive signal for the application for the European path, just as it's certain that next year we will get the status of candidate for European Union membership," Covic told reporters in Neum.

He said the whole country would benefit from drawing closer to the EU, as would the Bosnian Croat people in the fight for equality. "With plenty of encouragement, but also disapproval, well-meaning friends have told us that this is the only way to achieve equality."

On September 20, the EU General Affairs Council will consider the membership status application which Bosnia submitted in mid-February.
